Watsons Sustainability and Innovation Summit…

Meeting with the participants at the Watsons Sustainability and Innovation Summit with his presentation titled “Is a Sustainable Life Possible?”, Nature Activist Güven İslamoğlu underlined that humans have consumed the carbon produced by nature in millions of years in the last 250 years and that solar energy, the most reliable source for a sustainable world, should be switched to rapidly.

Delivering a speech titled “Sustainability in an Age of Uncertainty”, Akan Abdula, Co-Founder of FutureBright Group, shared the information that the number of farmers in Turkey has decreased by 38% in the last 10 years, while agricultural areas have shrunk by 15%.

In order to draw attention to the carbon footprint, the carbon footprint of the event and the participants’ transportation to the event was measured throughout the summit. The total carbon footprint of the two-day summit was measured as 1,973 kg. To offset this impact, a total of 1,000 saplings were donated, one for each participant and audience attending the summit for two days. With 1,000 saplings, about 10 times more carbon dioxide was neutralized than the 1,973 kg of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere.
