Fire resistant PIR polyurethane systems

Flokser Kimya meets the needs of the sector with PIR systems developed in the B1 fireproof class, which provide ideal use in building insulation. PIR rigid foams; have high thermal insulation, are stable at high temperatures and are fire resistant, as well as showing superior mechanical properties.

Polyurethane raw material systems manufacturer and exporter Flokser Kimya is developing special products with increased fireproofing properties for the insulation of buildings in the fireproofing laboratory of the first ministry-approved polyurethane R&D center. Polyurethane foams help reduce energy and fuel consumption in building insulation and are seen as an ideal insulation product. However, since polymeric materials can easily catch fire due to their structure, the fireproofing of the polyurethane foam used between panels needs to be improved and flame retardant properties should be provided.

In the production of sandwich panels used in exterior and roof insulation, easily flammable polyurethane foams are used more than PIR products that are more resistant to fire. However, within the scope of the “Fire Protection of Buildings” regulation, exterior facades in the construction sector must be made of non-flammable material in high-rise buildings and of the least flammable material in other buildings. With this legal obligation, the need for polyurethane insulation materials with increased fire resistance is increasing day by day.

Developing fire-resistant PIR systems for sandwich panel production
Flokser Kimya’s R&D center has a separate laboratory where special equipment is used for fireproofing studies, and where fire resistance studies and fire resistance tests are conducted. Products with increased fire resistance developed in this laboratory are also tested in accredited external testing laboratories.

In addition to various additives that provide fireproofing in polyurethane foams, polyisocyanurate (PIR) systems obtained by cyclotrimerization of isocyanate groups are used. PIR systems that exhibit high mechanical properties meet the needs of the sector with their high thermal insulation, resistance to high temperatures and fire, and resistance to microbes and molds. In continuous production lines, by adding a catalyst, additive and blowing agent to the system along with a polyol mixture, sandwich panels with high fire resistance are produced with PIR rigid foams obtained as a result of the reaction with isocyanate.

PIR spray foam provides high performance and superior strength in insulation
In addition, PIR spray foam, a special product with increased fire resistance added to Flokser Kimya’s product range, is used as a high-performance insulation material for areas such as walls, roofs, and floors. In addition to having a smooth surface, superior thermal resistance, and dimensional stability, it also provides easy use to the applicator at a 1:1 ratio by volume, like PUR spray products.
